BCM Decathlon Moderate Fund (DECMX/DECIX)

BCM’s Global Multi-Asset Moderate Tactics SMA strategy, with a 9-year track record of providing growth and lower-correlated alpha* while also managing downside risk, is now accessible via 1940 Act Mutual Fund. The BCM Decathlon Moderate Fund is managed in a substantially similar manner to the Global Multi-Asset Moderate Tactics SMA Strategy.

Global Tactical Asset Allocation Fund

The BCM Decathlon Moderate Fund is a global tactical asset allocation (GTAA) strategy that uses a predictive, quantitative approach focused on providing growth and downside risk management.

Selecting from a prudently managed universe of diverse exposures, the Fund can invest in virtually any investible asset class. Decathlon seeks to provide low-correlated returns and, in addition to serving as a stand-alone solution for smaller accounts, is designed to be an alpha engine to strategic asset allocation portfolios while still emphasizing downside risk management.

Since 2012, the BCM Decathlon Moderate Tactics Separately Managed Account (SMA) Strategy has been delivering alpha, mitigating risk when markets warrant and helping smooth the investment experience for investors throughout market cycles.

The BCM Decathlon Moderate Fund offers the same philosophy and is based on the same research as the BCM Decathlon Moderate SMA strategies.

Predictability of Irrational Investor Behavior

The philosophy underlying the Decathlon fund’s investment process is based on investor emotion and behavioral finance.

The global events that drive markets are constantly changing but we believe investor behavior, specifically human reactions to varied market events, remains consistent. While the human beings that move markets most often do not act rationally, we believe there are distinct, repeatable patterns in their behavior that can be used as an investment advantage.

The Decathlon system uses machine learning to not only remove emotion from our investment process, but also identify these repeating behavioral patterns in order to predict the relative returns and risk (volatility) of various securities.

Predictive, Quantitative and Rules-based Approach

Using pattern recognition technology (PRT), driven by machine learning, the system analyzes the historical return and volatility data of each exposure (typically represented by an ETF) in the managed investment universe to rank and select securities based on the desirability of the patterns present in the price data.

The Fund’s portfolio management team combines this research with additional risk, concentration and trading rules, as well as tax and expense considerations to build a portfolio designed to maximize risk-adjusted returns within the 7-12% volatility risk budget.

The system trades dynamically as market environments and opportunities change seeking to provide low-correlated alpha within a target volatility range.

Building Portfolios with the BCM Decathlon Moderate Fund

In addition to being a standalone option for smaller accounts, the BCM Decathlon Moderate Fund is designed to be used as a complementary risk-conscious alpha engine for strategic asset allocation portfolios.

Based on current market trends and capital markets assumptions, the standard 60/40 or other static allocation portfolios are not likely to meet return expectations going forward. These static allocation models were built using assumptions from past market cycles that the current environment is indicating will not continue for the foreseeable future.

While traditional asset allocations can be a foundational portion of a client portfolio, they are incomplete on their own. Global Tactical Asset Allocation (GTAA) strategies can work harmoniously with your static allocations to add alpha while also containing risk within a set target range. A dynamic GTAA fund uses flexibility and ever-changing market conditions to its advantage, shifting allocations to capitalize on both long- and short-term opportunities in virtually any asset class.
